Staff Spotlight ~ Mike Moreno
This month, we’re celebrating Michael Moreno. Mike is the School Culture Climate Ambassador for both Ambrosini Elementary and Toddy Thomas School. Known for his positivity, kindness, and unwavering support for students, Mike has a special talent for connecting with kids, meeting their needs, and encouraging their growth. Whether he’s in the cafeteria, classroom, on the playground, or attending field trips, Mike is always there with a smile and a kind word.
Michael grew up in Fortuna and attended Walker Elementary (then called South Fortuna Elementary), Fortuna Middle School (formerly Town School), and Fortuna High School, where he played soccer all four years. After high school, he attended College of the Redwoods, earning two associate degrees as a student-athlete. He then transferred to Chico State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in Sociology while beginning his career in education with Chico Unified School District.
Over the past eight years, Mike has worked in various roles, including Aide, Instructional Assistant Substitute, After-School Leader, SCIA, ELD Aide, and now as one of the district’s School Culture Climate Ambassadors. Since returning to Fortuna in 2020, he has been a strong advocate for students, helping them navigate challenges, build confidence, and succeed in and out of the classroom.
When asked what he loves most about his job, Mike shared:
"I love building and creating relationships with every student. I strive to be a great role model for them and to understand their needs. It’s so rewarding to see students grow and succeed, knowing I’ve made an impact on their journey."
Fun facts about Mike: He’s terrified of snakes, loves dipping his French fries in milkshakes, and fondly remembers attending Walker Elementary as a kid.
Mike’s dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts to support students and staff make him an invaluable part of the FESD team. Thank you, Mike, for everything you do to inspire and uplift those around you! 💛
