Staff Spotlight ~ Nicole Cleek
Meet Nicole Cleek, a dedicated and inspiring 5th-grade teacher at Toddy Thomas Middle School. Known for her ability to challenge and motivate students, Nicole creates an engaging and supportive classroom environment where students feel truly cared for. Her colleagues describe her as a natural at building relationships, presenting dynamic lessons, and helping students thrive in every way.
Nicole has been part of the Fortuna Elementary School District for nine years, and her entire teaching journey has been at Toddy Thomas. Over the years, she’s taught every grade and subject at the school, from 5th to 8th grade, including math and science and her current favorites, English and history.
Nicole’s passion for teaching is evident in her words:
"There are so many things I love about teaching. I love that it is never boring, and each day is new and exciting. I love building relationships with students and giving them a reason to want to come to school and learn something new every day. I hope they view education not as a chore but as a means of empowerment and opportunity."
A longtime Humboldt County resident, Nicole earned her teaching credential from HSU in 2005 but took time off to be a stay-at-home mom before beginning her teaching career.
Fun fact about Nicole: She participated in a Spanish immersion program from 1st to 6th grade. That unique experience gave her valuable perspective and skills that continue to influence her teaching today.
