Staff Spotlight ~ Lisa Marie Macias
We’re thrilled to showcase the dedicated Librarian at Toddy Thomas Middle School, Lisa Marie. Though newer to her role, Ms. Macias has fully embraced the position and shares her passion for reading with every student who visits the library. Her colleagues describe her as wonderful with kids and a natural at encouraging a love of books.
Lisa Marie’s journey in education began nine years ago, initially as a volunteer in her daughter’s preschool, followed by various roles in the Eureka City School District. During the pandemic, she discovered her true calling—helping students develop a love for reading while working in reading intervention. After moving to Fortuna in 2021, she continued promoting literacy as a teacher’s aide at Ambrosini Elementary. When the opportunity for a librarian position at Toddy Thomas arose, Lisa Marie jumped at the chance.
Over the years, Lisa Marie has worked with kindergarten through 7th grade students in roles such as teacher’s aide, SCIA, reading intervention, recess monitor, secretary, and now librarian. What she enjoys most is sparking students’ enthusiasm for reading and watching them connect with the library’s many adventures.
A fun fact about Ms. Macias: she has loved reading since childhood, and her favorite book back then was Watership Down by Richard Adams—a perfect fit for someone who’s turned a lifelong hobby into a fulfilling career. We’re grateful to have Lisa Marie at Toddy Thomas, championing the joy of reading for all.
