Staff Spotlight ~ Trudy Bonnikson

Staff Spotlight: Trudy Bonnikson
This month, we’re proud to recognize Trudy Bonnikson, the heart of Norman G. Ambrosini Elementary School, where she has served as head secretary for over 20 years and worked in the district for a remarkable 27 years. Known for her warm greetings, deep knowledge of the campus, and incredible connection with students, Trudy is truly irreplaceable.
Her principal, Angela Schuetzle, puts it best: “Trudy goes above and beyond. She knows the names of all the students and greets them cheerfully. She knows everything that is happening on our campus.”
Born and raised in Fortuna, Trudy attended South School and Town School and graduated from Fortuna High. She began her career in education in the early '80s, working as a Perceptual Motor Aide and later as a 6th-grade classroom aide. After years of helping in classrooms and even in the cafeteria, she was hired as school secretary in 2003—and she’s been a steady, smiling presence in the office ever since.
Trudy shared that what she loves most about her job is meeting new students each year and welcoming families into the Ambrosini community.
“On rough days, I just need to see one of the littles to bring that smile back to my face,” she says.
And here’s a fun fact that perfectly captures Trudy’s spirit: after working at Ambrosini for many years, she got her very first tattoo—a bumblebee on her foot, proudly visible when she wears flip-flops or sandals.
Trudy’s kindness, consistency, and cheerful energy are woven into the fabric of Ambrosini Elementary. We are so thankful for her decades of dedication and the joy she brings to students, staff, and families alike. 💛🐝
