Staff Spotlight ~ Mackenzie Medearis

We are excited to share a little about Mackenzie Medearis, a 4th-grade teacher at Linell K. Walker Elementary who, in her first year as a classroom teacher, is making a strong, positive impression on campus.
Her principal, Helen Nelson, shares, “Mackenzie is off to a flying start as a new teacher. She has developed strong bonds with her students, and they like and respect her. She has fun ideas, she’s creative, and she works hard.”
Although this is her first official year teaching, Mackenzie brings seven years of classroom experience. She has worked with students from TK through 5th grade as an aide, practicum student, student teacher, summer school teacher, and even as a high school helper. Teaching has been her dream since the first grade, and she is thrilled to finally be living it.
What Mackenzie enjoys most about her work is building meaningful relationships with her students. She loves the humor, energy, and creativity kids bring to the classroom.
She says, “Kids are hilarious, and getting to be silly with them as they get older really strengthens our environment and makes our class feel tight-knit. Having community in the classroom is a very unique and special thing that I am so excited to be a part of.”
A fun fact about Mackenzie: she’s so passionate about sustainability that her college friends called her “Compost Karen.”
Mackenzie’s enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication to her students make her a wonderful addition to the Walker Stars team. We’re excited to see her shine in her first year and beyond! ⭐
