Staff Spotlight ~ Ryan Schlesiger

This trimester’s Staff Spotlight is Ryan Schlesiger, an Education Specialist at Fortuna Middle School. Ryan is currently in his sixth year with our district, though he brings a wealth of experience from his previous work in the community. Before joining FMS, he served as an instructional aide at Eel River Community School for five years and spent 15 years with the Humboldt County Probation Department, where he worked as a Probation Officer, Administrative Analyst, and at the Juvenile Hall.
FMS Principal, Saul Lewis, considers Ryan a vital part of the middle school team, stating, "Ryan is the ideal team player who consistently meets the needs of his students and is always willing to help wherever there is a need on campus. His calm demeanor and effective communication skills with students contribute to the smooth operation of our campus."
In his role within the Resource Specialist Program, Ryan works closely with 7th and 8th-grade students. What he enjoys most about his work is getting to know his students' unique personalities and watching them gain confidence in their ability to learn during their two years at FMS. He also deeply values the sense of community among his colleagues, noting that the staff is truly committed to the well-being and education of every student.
A fun fact about Ryan is that he was born and raised right next door in Loleta! We are grateful for Ryan’s calm leadership and his long-standing commitment to supporting youth in our area. Thank you, Ryan, for all you do for your students and the Fortuna Middle School community!
